How Long Does CBD Stay In Your System?

According to Kelly Johnson-Arbor, M.D., the co-medical director of National Capital Poison Center, CBD products such as, Forbidden V, stay in your system for about four or five days. However, factors like what you eat, medications, frequency of use, and others can influence how long CBD stays in your body or how long it’s detectable in your urine.

Many people are curious about how long CBD products stay in your system, because they may use CBD edibles and other full spectrum CBD products, and aren’t sure if this could cause them to fail a drug test. People are especially curious when using hemp derived CBD, which is not known for having high THC content (hemp plants contain less CBD overall.)

Does CBD Oil Show Up on a Drug Test?

Yes, CBD oil can show up on a drug test. But it depends on what kind of CBD oil, such as broad spectrum CBD or full spectrum CBD, how much you take, the frequency with which you consume CBD, how long it stays in your system, and the drug test itself (urine tests could have different results than hair tests, ect).

For example, some drug tests don’t check for CBD. But most do check for THC, which can show up in trace amounts in some CBD oils, especially full-spectrum formulations. So if you take a lot of full-spectrum CBD products and you take them often, a drug test may detect CBD and cause a positive drug test result.

Is CBD Detectable in Urine?

If you’re a healthy person and you take a high-quality CBD product, it’ll probably take about 85 hours (or three and a half days) to eliminate CBD before drug testing That’s because most drugs take about five half-lives to eliminate from the body, and CBD has a half-life of about 14 to 17 hours.

Now, again, things like purity of the CBD, method of delivery, what you eat and when, medications, and other factors can influence this timeframe and whether or not you will get a positive drug test.

If you’re concerned about passing workplace drug testing, consider taking a break from CBD products. But no matter what you decide, always consult with a medical health professional before changing your health routine. Suddenly starting, stopping, or otherwise disrupting a health routine may lead to negative side effects — so talk with a doctor just to be safe.
